Amani Ya Juu: Live, Love, Laugh

This morning, I am dancing to this song.

One of the things that I enjoy about being in Nairobi is that there are lots of places to go with young children, that you both enjoy. When I visited in 2016, a friend told me about a place that Ksena and I would enjoy, but we didn’t get a chance to visit it then.

A few weeks ago, we finally got a chance to go to to Amani Ya Juu. It was worth the wait. The serene atmosphere was exactly what our Monday needed. It has a nice playground for children under 10, a beautiful garden and a lovely gift shop. The gift shop is something to write home about. It has beautiful handmade goods with a card attached that includes the name of the person who made it and a bible verse.

“Amani ya Juu (Higher Peace) is a training project in sewing and marketing for African women who have been affected by wars and ethnic conflicts. The purpose of this project is twofold; one is to give African women an opportunity to improve their sewing and marketing skills to provide for the needs of their families and the other is to sow seeds of peace in the hearts of these women. Wonderful hand-made and hand dyed toys and home decorations, very African with a modern twist.” ~ Kenya Buzz

Above all, the peace of God, a higher peace is there. Amani ya juu! This is a place I would definitely go to read a lovely book, spend time with God and just be. And shop:).

These wall hangings from the gift shop are serving as a special reminder to live, love and laugh this year and for the years to come.

Acts 17:28 New International Version (NIV)

28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

If I am not connected to God I will not live, move and be as He designed me. John 15:5“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” To live the life that God desires me to live, I must remain connected to Him.

1 John 3:16 New International Version (NIV)

16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

Love is more than the warm fuzzy feelings. Love is laying down my life for others. I had an interesting conversation with a mum a few days ago, she said parenting is all about sacrifice and I responded that you are the sacrifice. A living sacrifice, whose mind is constantly being renewed by Christ.

Psalm 126:2-3 New International Version (NIV)

Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
The Lord has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy.

God has done great things for me. When I take my eyes off Him I start to mumble and grumble, I lose the light in my eye and forget to laugh. Yet He has filled my mouth with laughter. Ksena has been reminding me to laugh from the bottom of my heart. This year, I will laugh.

I am really enjoying this ‘Sounds of Revival film’ by William McDowell.

Get Up And Soar

‘Excuses are lies wrapped up in reasons’- Howard Wright

This definition of excuses hit close to home. I had not thought of excuses as lies; I used to make them and hide behind them. At some point my excuses had become so convincing, they even resembled truth. I had internalized them and become them.

My most recent excuse revolved around the fact that I didn’t feel like the conditions around me were ‘condusive’ for my leap of faith, read: ‘comfortable enough’, to do what God had asked me to do. The truth is, Jesus didn’t promise ‘perfect and comfortable’ conditions to live out His purpose. In fact, John 16:33 says that we will face many trials and sorrows:

TRIALS AND PEACE

It doesn’t say might or could have trials and sorrows, but will have many trials and sorrows. What He does promise though, is His peace. His peace that surpasses all understanding. His peace that is perfect.

Isaiah 26:3 New Living Translation (NLT)

You will keep in perfect peace
    all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

He doesn’t promise perfect external conditions, but He promises perfect internal conditions, if we trust in Him and keep our thoughts fixed on Him.

I have made a resolve within myself to get up and soar. To let God mount me on wings like eagles. To do that which He created me to do by His grace, for His glory. For so long, I have wearied myself with excuses, but I will run to Him to refresh me.

Isaiah 40:31 New Living Translation (NLT)

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.

There is a popular saying used to motivate people to get out of their comfort zones. Do it afraid. I like this one by Joyce Meyer:

100768-Joyce-Meyer-Quote-Just-because-you-feel-fear-doesn-t-mean-you-can

It’s okay to start without all the answers; as you get up, hold on to these promises

1 John 4:4 New Living Translation (NLT)

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

2 Timothy 1:7 New Living Translation (NLT)

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

What if you lived out your purpose fully?

What if you were all you were created to be?

What is standing in your way?

Get up and soar, beloved. You were created for greatness; greater heights. Soar!!!

Have a blessed week,

Be Magnified : Day 6

beach

I went to the beach yesterday, it was breathtakingly beautiful. There was a perfect peace that covered me. I couldn’t help but just stand in awe of God and join creation in worship Him. As I looked at the ocean and reflected, there was an impression over my heart. That I have made God too small in my eyes. This song was heavily on my heart and I wept as I sung it.

I was quiet for a few minutes, because it was true. I realized that I had begun to look at God from a very small lens, and in my folly I would measure Him against my circumstances. Folly of the highest order but my reality all the same. Considering I am a stay at home mum and writer, you can imagine what I measure Him against. I am chuckling as I write this because it is absolutely ridiculous. This past week, we have had blackouts every day without fail. It has made writing a bit tricky; but God’s power and might have nothing to do with Kenya Power. He is God in times when they supply us with electricity and in times when they don’t.

God is so gracious. Even as He convicted my heart of that wrong, He loved on me and begun to show me just how big He is.

I left there refreshed and challenged. In AWE of the most high God.

What circumstances have you been measuring God against?

When is the last time you just stood in AWE of Him and thanked Him for who He is?

The Prayer of the day is:

Dear Lord,

I thank you for the privilege that it is to know you and be known by you. I worship you Lord, because you are God. You are not defined by anything or anyone. You are sovereign.

Please forgive me for the times that I have made you too small in my eyes; the days that I have measured you against circumstances. Forgive me Lord, for the way that I have magnified situations and minimized you by sometimes looking for help from mere men. Yet you are the only one who can help me. Indeed some trust in chariots and some in horses but I choose to trust in the name of the Lord.

Help me to always see how big you are. To see you as you really are; God. There is nothing that you can’t do, and I declare that my eyes are on you, be magnified Lord, be magnified.

In Jesus name I pray and believe,

Amen

The song of the day is:

May the Lord encourage you. There is nothing to hard for Him. HE IS GOD. May He be magnified in every aspect of your life. Have a lovely day.

Blessings,

Bibi2Be
